Nobody likes a broken record, but in this case the repetition is entirely necessary… is your website mobile responsive? In April 2015 it was important that you made the move to responsive, and now one year later it’s absolutely vital.
Google have announced that they’re rolling out a boost to the mobile-friendly algorithm in May 2016. Last year’s update was dubbed ‘Mobilegedden’ due to its destructive impact on webmasters. The update in May will increase the effect of the ranking signal, so if your website is not mobile-friendly you will likely see further drops in your rankings and your traffic.
WHY IS MOBILE RESPONSIVE SO IMPORTANT?
As always, Google’s aim is to improve usability and the theory behind the mobile-friendly algorithm is no different. More and more searches are performed on mobile devices, so it’s vital that users can access relevant content that is easy to view and navigate.
So what should you do? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again… go responsive! Having a website that’s not mobile friendly in 2016 is like whipping out your Nokia 3310 and showing your crew how to play Snake. It was great at the time but now it’s outdated, and it doesn’t give the user what they’re looking for.
